What the gallery's page does not tell you. Leaving the United States: no customs question at all. On arrival in the United States this is an original work of art under Chapter 97 of the tariff schedule and enters free of duty. At 61cm on its longest side this is checked-baggage size in a hard tube or case if it is unstretched, and a crate if it is not. At $925 it sits at the entry end of what Atlanta galleries publish online.

Getting it home
No customs question at allA domestic purchase raises no export or import issue. What is left is sales tax, shipping and insurance — and the insurance gap is real. Get a signed, dated bill of sale with artist, title, medium and dimensions, and schedule the work before it moves.
