What the gallery's page does not tell you. Leaving the United States: no customs question at all. On arrival in the United States this is an original work of art under Chapter 97 of the tariff schedule and enters free of duty. At 30cm on its longest side this travels flat in a portfolio or a cabin bag, which is the cheapest and safest way to move it. At $2,000 it sits in the middle of what Atlanta galleries publish online.

Getting it home
No customs question at allA domestic purchase raises no export or import issue. What is left is sales tax, shipping and insurance — and the insurance gap is real. Get a signed, dated bill of sale with artist, title, medium and dimensions, and schedule the work before it moves.
